The real use of Sketchup to manage construction project
-
I have used Sketchup in the way that most people do not do. Because, I am in the construction industry, my work is to use Sketchup to promote collaboration between our clients (owners), my consulting team and our sub-contractors. The collaboration can be done in 3 ways

I often catch myself doing the same thing with metal building manufacturing.

I thought everyone did.

Pomtiff,
Thank You for sharing. I like your methods very much.
-
Thanks Pomtiff. Always like to see your work and enthusiasm. Many of us use SU for design visualization with the client (as well as for construction drawings) and less as a costing and engineering tool for involvement with builders. This brings more of a construction management / BIM element to it. You seem to putting an integrated system together that others can plug into. Inspiring for those of us who work alone a lot of the time.
The video is well done. Your english is not bad.

Humpmetwice, what plugins do you use fo this steel construction?
-
Yorik this is all I could find in the plugin folder. On mine it put a menu idem in the plugin menu "add beam". Works great for me, one of my favorite plugins but for the life of me I can't find anything else but the file I'm adding. Hope this works for you.

BOM and visualization power are geart in SKETCHUP as you are doing. But in my point of view, Sketchup could be more. I think it can make 4D and 5D for managing construction plan and resources and also cash flow, respectively. The true value of sketchup for construction industry should be done. in this way I guess.

Really interested to see Sketchup used, outside of the usual areas of architecture/landscape design.
Had a quick flick to your web link to see how advanced you are taking this down the BIM route - where Autodesk are currently focused
