Vector rendering
-
Hi Everyone. I have been watching videos of the amazing things Nick Sonder does with Sketchup. He mentions vector rendering a few times. What is that? I understand rendering a picture to make it look realistic. Is it the same thing? Thanks.

That is an output option for LayOut which is a (layout and) publishing program for SU that comes with SU Pro. Vector rendering uses vector as opposed to raster graphics.

Ok, thanks. So now I need to ask what is the difference between vector render and raster render? Thanks again.

A vector render can be exported to pdf for instance and that pdf file can be printed at any possible large sizes, the lines will always remain crisp as they are vectors.
Raster image exports of course will lose quality when resized or printed at larger.

Here is a comparison between the two.

Nick can often use Raster rendering for lines because they aren't really visible in the image. When he needs very crisp lines, he'll use Vector rendering or Hybrid which renders lines as vector and textures as raster.
