Hello! Could anyone help me on how to do scenes where the composition of the models in each scene are different? The scenes seem to only change camera and does not save the position of the objects, each scene the objects are suppose to be in different places.

      thanks in advance!

Hi Xerico, scenes do not save object location. They do save layer visibility though. There are people who will make 10 copies of an object, move each one slightly, and put each onto a separate layer. Then set up 10 scenes that control the visibility of the layers in such a way that it looks as if the object has moved. But in fact its just tricky layer management.

It is do-able, but its a pain. There are a few animation plugins around that help control it.

Here's an example of what Chris is talking about. I did this one a long time ago when the default selection color was yellow instead of blue and scenes were pages. If you open the Layers window and step through the scenes or play the animation, you can see how the layer visibility settings change.

thanks guys! the info really helped! I always thought Sketchup had a built in feature to do that.

I would really have preferred the layers trick but it really is a lot of work, might as well try out some animation plugins.

              again, thanks for the help!

It isn't really all that much work. You just need to organize things.

I think its a lot of work if you're doing anything more than a simple animation though. Opening a door, or moving a car on a straight line, easy enough. But seriously, I would hate to think about anything much more complex than that.
