I've been trying to export to DWG in Layout- the dimensions and delineators go - but no images - when I try to change the images to vector I get the spinning beach ball of death -
    any ideas?

You need vector lines to export to DWG so it isn't surprising your raster-rendered views don't go. Have you tried doing this with a very simple model and rendered it as Vector first?

Rendering in Vector (or Hybrid because the edges are being rendered in Vector, too) can take a while. The rendering process renders everything that would be visible in the SketchUp model whether or not it is visible in the scene/viewport. Obviously this could be a whole lot of stuff being rendered. The thing to do is make sure you are displaying as little as possible by using layers in SU and turning off unneeded layers. This will shorten the render time because there'll be less to render and you'll not see the spinning beach ball for as long.

Thanks - Dave - that is great info- once the files are vectors - do I still have access to make changes through my sketchup file (are my changes updated in my layout file??

If all you are doing is rendering in Vector mode, yes, you still have the link between SketchUp and LayOut. If you then explode the SketchUp viewport, you only have Vector lines but no direct link to SketchUp.
