Bicycle cog plugin?
-
Does anyone have a plugin or other resources to make it easier to make bike cogs and chainrings? I'm working on an invention and I don't want to have to make the cogs from scratch. In fact if there are cassette cogs and a freehub spline somewhere I would prefer to just use those. Couldn't find any in the 3D warehouse, just a 6sp freewheel.

Dave, thanks for the links but those are for meshing gears. I'm looking for something for chain cogs, which have a different profile. I found a link to a geometric construction technique

but I was just wondering if anyone had created a plugin that does the same thing. -
I know they aren't for the same sort of gears but they're the only plugins I know of for drawing gears. If you can get the correct tooth profile, drawing them from scratch shouldn't be that hard.

Dave is right, from scratch and make a library of components.
Also for chain look at Chris Fullmer's component stringer in plugin index. -
Drawing the sprockets from scratch shouldn't be that hard if you have the dimensions and other specs. I drew accurate sprockets and the roller chain for this bench vise by hand and it didn't take all that long.

Both are made up of a bunch of pretty simple components.

not a plugin but a tutorial
