Easy windows
-
Hi Im trying to make (or find) some easy windows for architectural drawings... ie windows that:
will cut their own openings in two faces of a wall;
can be moved around the wall and take their openings with them;
can be copied without losing their cutting powers and
hopefully are scalableis such a thing possible?
Ive gone through a few tutorials here from Gaieus and Sorgesu but I couldnt seem to make it happen.
Any tips anyone?
Im more than happy to use someone elses components. They dont have to be amazing looking windows, simple boxes would be ok.
Cheers

Hi Mal,
Incidentally, I have just happened to recap one of my old tutorials here: http://sketchucation.com/resources/tutorials/36-intermediate/321-window-cut-hole-thick-wall
To get it to cut in a thick wall is not too hard. In order to scale it to any wall thickness however, you will need to make the component unique and adjust the "depth" of it separately.
A component placed on a face can be copied (multiplied with the Ctrl+Move tool) on that face (more exactly any faces on the same plane as once you place the component, it will glue to that geometrical plane). If you need to put it on another face however, you will need to insert it again from the Component browser.

Gai, U R the Man!
Your tutorial is exactly what I was looking for. Wall thicknesses tend to be constant so no probs there, quite happy to re-load on a different wall plane. I would have been happy with fish-tanks for windows.
Im yet to work my way through it all but hopefully I can blunder my way to a result of sorts.
Many thanks!

Very cool Gai. The method I use is I make the trim a component that cuts the hole since most of my projects have trim both on the interior and exterior, but I like your method very much.

Glad if it helps - and from you, Sonder, I mean to take it as a compliment, too - although I have just "picked" much of these things up to refine my ways (I hope to have added credits where due - and where I remembered).

Gai, definitely a compliment! Props to you.
