      Hi

I started using sketchup just under a year ago and I have the basics skills on it but right now I am working on a project which is basically a wave ( like in the image attached) wrapped around the top of a rounded cube. I have tried googling tutorials and getting ideas from videos with no luck.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me to make this organic wave shape?
      Thanks πŸ˜„

I need to make a version of this shape without a base

What is the final product that the model is being used for? Just an image export to show a concept or something? Or is it some sort of 3d model to be 3d printed? Or are you going to be making a photoreal rendering of it? I'm not sure if it matters, but depending on what you're trying to use the model for, it might help make a choice on what tool to use to make it.

My first guess would be that artisan is the tool you'll need for this.

And a gallery of work made in artisan:

I am producing a couple images to show the concept and would need to be able to make a photoreal render of it if possible.

Hi Olivia. Welcome to SCF. What a lovely name.

What you want to do could be done. There are a number of plugins that can help. It'll be a lot of work without them. Take a look at Artisan, Vertex Tools and TIG's Extrusion Tools to start. Look at the Plugins list under Resources at the top of the screen here on SCF.

Could you get away with using the image and putting your cube in the picture? I'm thinking you'll wind up with a pretty complex model that will be difficult to handle and render.

Or maybe you could try the fluid simulator in Blender (free download). The attached is a low-res version of two balls of water colliding. You could modify the effect by having them washing over an invisible obstacle of the right shape. Not sure if it is the shape that is important or the render/lighting?
