Just for fun is there anybody besides me that thinks if there are big improvements in LO and SU like data extraction, scheduleing etc. that autodesk will swoop in buy the whole thing and ether kill it or turn it into a monster like they did Architectural Desktop and Revit.

Too late for AutoDesk. I don't see Trimble letting SU go like Google did. In the end I can see Trimble eating Revit's lunch... ๐Ÿ’š

OK - so I am curious based on the question and the response. What is it about Revit that makes you feel it is a monster? And for the response - what does Trimble have that is in the same market segement as Revit?

Lets all take a moment and pray that Autodesk keeps its hands off. SU and LO already have many things to offer that Adt and revit cant approach.....simplicity being number one.

They don't have anything now, and that's the point of acquiring SU. From what I understand, they are looking to do some vertical integration in the BIM field, and with Sketchup, once they develop BIM modules to interface with their hardware, they can compete on the software part as well.

i came across this the other day. I've barely looked at it, but it looks like they're trying to get back some of the people that have left autocad for sketchup.

My apologies for not responding to the comments here. I started this and then got busy and did not receive any notifications so I thought it went unnoticed.

I think Revit is a monster because its slow as molasis in January, crashes and is not the least bit intuitive to use and my subscription cost close to $700.00/ yr to maintain. After 30 years of autodesk the freedom and ease of use of SU is refreshing and OMG fun!

Autode$k is rubbish, the arrogance of there theirsales people is unbelievable, no love of modelling there and they simply ignore you if you have after sales problems. SU is cool but the real killer is Archicad. Best program I have ever used by a mile/1.6 KM expensive but completely awesome. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
