    Hi,
I have Sketchup Pro V8 and Autocad LT 2011 on a Windows 7 32 bit machine. I have alwaysbeen able to import CAD files into Sketchup until just recently. I don't believe I've changed any settings. I have no idea why it now won't work. I go through the same steps I always have and when it goes to import, it just sits and spins. JPG's, PNG's import just fine. I've seen several posts about purging the CAD file, saving it down, etc... and I tried those thing, even though I've never had to before. Still doesn't work. Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Robert

      Hello HUBstudio.

I must say u give us not much information to work with.

      • Are u getting any error message?
      • Is sketchup not responding after u import a file?
      • Are u importing on the right scale?
      • Have u tried opening the file with a cad viewer to see if the cad file aint the problem.

Screenshots of errors will help solving this.
unfortunaly in the end it could be any kind of error in the installed Sketchup program, only solution then is reinstalling SU.

      Greetings Erwin

Have you tried a different cad file and what are your origin co-ordinates? I believe SU falls over if the DWG is too far away from 0,0.

I would also ask, have you tried importing a cad drawing you know works?

Try wblocking all the information required in modelspace to a older DWG format - or use the AECTOACAD command to convert any AutoCAD Architect or other "vertical" flavoured objects in the file.

Erwin, I am getting no error messages. Sketchup does not respond, all I get is the blue spinning circle icon. That is what I meant by sit and spin. I am importing at whatever scale I have alway imported at.And, I can open the file just fine with Autocad LT. There is no screen shot to show really, other than the spinning blue icon, which we all know.

Tobobo, I have tried importing a cad file that I know works and get the same non-responsive effect.

ArCAD UK, I did try to reload a cad file that worked into a drawing that worked, meaning I erased the cad file from an older project and reloaded into the same project again. My imports have always come into the drawings at 0,0.

JGA, I have saved the drawing down to 2007. It is a small (less than 300KB)simple line drawing created in Autocad LT with no 3-D objects, or any objects or blocks, in it whatsoever.

Can you post the cad file so we can have a try?

Also try auditing you cad file and purging.

If as you say you have checked with several files including some that have worked previously then it may be worth running the reinstall of SU. Have you upgraded to the latest V8 M4?

                    Try the following:

                    1. Explode few times to be sure that you have simple bunch of lines and arcs
                    2. Change font to simplex.shx
                    3. Purge
                    4. Audit
                    5. Save to some basic AC 14
                    6. You can also save as DXF
                      Try to import (both) again.

                    Regards, SU 'beginner'

I had the same problem, i tried everything said here and nothing worked, what i last did was exploding everything and then exporting it to older version of autocad. And now it works.
