Importing meshes question
-
It may sounds weird,
But is it possible to import a single mesh (with applied UV textures) in SU, larger than 64k faces?
I use the 3ds format, but you may have some better idea. -
Yes, it is possible - 64k is the limitation of 3ds AFAIK only. I have successfully imported meshes made from 30,000 point cloud (and it should be more than 64k poly in this case). True that it's around the limitation of SU.

Thanks for reply Gaieus
So, what format-importer should I use? -
The one in question was dxf. But I could also import the point cloud and make the mesh with this plugin: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=29126
It was a terrain model - I do not know how other meshes could be created. Here there were no points directly above each other (i.e. it's not a supposedly closed shape)

Gaieus,
The question was about importing larger than 64k single mesh with UV maps applied.
If the model is divided to more than one mesh, 3ds format will work, it will import lot of groups as these aren't larger than 64k each.Anyway, it's impossible to divide a nude like this one. The whole statue is actually three meshes but nude aphrodite is one piece.
I tried all the tricks, excellent zb plugin-decimation master, UVmaps, baking some AO and cavity. It's not enough. If I could only go for a 128k mesh...
A podium render. -
Try Collada

No collada thomthom, it will never work right under blender to SU workflow.
Thank you, anyway. Importing heavy meshes into SU is never an easy to do task. Even the 64 k limit of 3ds format is more than reasonable for the SU viewport engine.
Much easier to export all SU scene as obj to blender and set up a scene there. (tig's exporter)
