I have created a component; named it and saved to my component folder. I then went in and edited this component (while still in the original drawing). I added color to the component. Then I right clicked "save as" and saved with the exact same name. It asked to overwrite and I said yes. However, when I bring the component back into the drawing it does not have any color.

Sorry for the long winded explanation. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Could you post the component so we can see it?

I don't know how to post a component...but I did realize there is a lock symbol as aprt of the icon. I have not noticed this before on a component. Is there a way to "unlock" the component?

        I really appreciate your help!

When you select the component in the model, does it have a red bounding box? If so, right click on it and choose Unlock. Then resave the component.

I think you'll need another post to get you past the restriction on uploading. Then you'll have an option to Upload Attachment at the bottom of the screen. BTW, I sent you a PM.

            Dave,

The component does not have a red box around it. It is a blue box.

              Dave,

I can now upload ( and have done so here) the component. Please let me know what you think as to how to get it to keep color. Thanks!

You're right. there's no material applied. There's also no materials in the In Model Materials Library. Could you post the SKP file from which you saved this petal out?

I tried to send it to you as a pm but I received an error message that it is too large. Let me see if there is a way to reduce the size and I will try again.

Perhaps you can zip it and then send it. Normally I would suggest that you purge unused materials and components but I don't want to lose something we may need in this case.

Sorted. The materials/colors need to be applied to the faces instead of to the component wrapper.

                        👍

Indeed. A component (as "such") will not actually be affected if you only apply a material to it "from outside" (i.e. - as Dave put it - to its wrapper only) That material will only belong to the model this component is placed in. This is not different from alignment (position, rotation...) of a component inside a model or the scale of a component when it is scaled (again) from "outside" (not while editing it).

Here is a little tut that I put together on a different note but may still be interesting (does not seem to be a very popular one, as I see though): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=39655&p=350494
