Import DWG files
-
Hey everyone, I'm working on a script that really needs to be able to import dwg format and we REALLY want people to be able to use the most recent free version of SketchUp, which no longer natively import .dwg files.
Are there any good dwg importers for SketchUp? I thoguht there were, but nothing showed up in the plugins list and you can't search for 3 letter words on this lovely forum. So I'm not having a lot of luck finding anything.
So what do you think, am I out of luck on this? Or is there a converter I could distribute with my script (its ok if its massive) and just run it from within SketchUp or something? Anyhow, any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Chris

When I need to work around this I do a Google search local to this forum:
DWG import site:http://forums.sketchucation.com/

There isn't a free DWG importer that I know of...
There are some free DXF importers.
There are free AutoDesk utilities [in DWGtrueview?] to convert a DWG into a DXF [or into earlier versions as r2012 into SKP is the current limit?], or of course there are several free CAD apps that read/write DWG's into usable DXF formats too...
So importing a DXF is quite possible... -
So why not grab a copy of the earlier version while you can...

import through the earlier version then bring it into v8?
