        Hi pilou

I could not find SKtech UV at smustard.

If you meant to say SketchUV, i have already purchased and tried the plugin. Excellent plug in and well worth the price, but i don't think it can make individual unique surfaces from a curved object that is UV mapped.

I will Have a look at Thrupaint.

Any other sugestions would be helpfull.

        Cheers

Nick, can you post your model?

In fact, most of these UV mapping plugins, when applying the texture, distort it somehow. Now the big deal is to export this texture in one piece with the UV mapping data intact because natively SU would "explode" the texture into small pieces on each facet - something I suppose you need for some reason.

SketchUV does the same - unless you triangulate the surface prior to exporting.

            Hi Gaieus

Please find attached the skp file that i am talking about.

The lighting design software (WYSIWYG from Cast software) that i import my sketchup designs into does not suport UV mapping. so i have to find a work around.

            Cheers

I am trying to find out if there is a plugin or some method that will allow me to make unique individual textures on a curved surface?

I have to export an curved object with UV mapping from sketchup to a 3d programme that does not support UV mapping. I have tried the standard make unique texture as well as the make unique +++ plugin, but neither work on curved surfaces properly.

              Any sugetions would help.

              Cheers

you have to turn on hidden lines first.. (break the curved surface into its individual faces then you can make a unique texture)

Edit-- oh.. if you export as .3ds with 'export texture maps' and 'preserving texture coordinates' checked, all the textures will be made unique for you…

i tried doing the 3DS export with your model and it wasn't working ??

i ended up resizing your texture (it's 1"x1" in sketchup while your model is 2300" across).. if you draw a rectangle then put your texture on it, it will appear solid grey because the texture is so tiny and it tiles so many times.. (zoom way in then you'll start seeing the tiling..)

anyway.. size the texture up ,then apply it to the surface, then try exporting as 3DS.. you should end up with the .3ds and almost 600 individual textures..

Not only 3ds but any export will do the same. Unfortunately, SU, when making these small textures unique, makes an awful job at antialiasing and such. I exported to dae (of course, it resulted in zillions of "exploded" small pieces) and re-imported the result. It looks like crap (sorry). Here is the whole thing (dae, texture folder and the reimported SU file) packed.

                    Hi Gaieus

                    Thanks for all your help.

I think that you are right. Even with exporting and importing the individual unique textures just don't sit right. I don't think that there is anything else i can try, so i will just have to do without.

                    Cheers

                      Hi,

Create texture feature of Tgi3D may be doing what you want (for certain types of surfaces) if the faces already have textures on them. Training edition has this feature with a face count limitation. You can also try using the unlimited free trial version .
                      You need to
                      select the faces
                      and
                      create texture

It will ask for a few options, projection type, image type face orientation etc.

                      good luck

                        Hi oganocali

I have tried Tgi 3D and it still has problems makeing every unique texture.

So i am going to forget about it for now.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

                        Cheers
