All In One Printer

My Canon PIXMA MP780 all in one printer has just given up the ghost. It looks like a problem with the print head and the cost of a replacement might be better spent on a new printer.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement all in one printer/scanner/copier?
Budget is around £80 - £150 and I'll be using it for small office duties e.g. printing invoices, copying documents and the occasional rough proof.

HP Photosmart. Series are pretty good. I got one in Tesco recently. Four separate inks so it reduces waste. And prints wirelessly for pc , laptop, iPhone and iPad.
For about €120 it does the job. Easy setup and it even goes online to print checklists, crosswords, sudoku etc. or links to snap fish for your photo prints.

David, we have a Brother A3 MFP Injet and am very happy with it. The best thing I find is that is has dual paper trays [A4 and A3] so there's no need to keep changing paper when needed. On top of that an A3 flat bed scanner, print resolution to 6000x1200 DPI and wireless...

I recently got a Canon PIXMA MG5220 and I am very happy with it. While it looks like it is a back feed that is only for photo paper or card stock. It has a paper tray in the bottom.

I've been really impressed with HP's high end printers, so I'll deffinately see what they have to offer. The Brother is a bit out of my price range and I don't do enough printing to justify the cost. The Canon is a consideration but I'm a bit wary after my print head problem - have you had any teething problems Eric?

David, I think its important to look at ink costs. While the printer is a once off cost, ink costs add up! I think all the inkjets printers are much the same price wise and quality output wise, so as I say, look at the consumables! Anyway, think INK!

Yes, Ink costs are a pain and I think that the fault with my Cannon is down keeping costs down by using 'compatible' inks.
I'm aware that Kodak are supposed to be better value when it comes to ink, but everyone I know with a Kodak printer says the quality (even for general printing) is rubbish unless you use photo paper.

None at all knock on wood. I like the interface and it does a great job.
I have owned many HP printers in the past and the quality has gotten exponentially worse throughout the years in my experience. I had one that worked fine for years. When it finally died I got another which only lasted about 2 years. The last HP I got lasted even less. Also the HP user interface made me bark more often than not. I was a happy man when I got the Cannon and purged everything HP out of our systems.
Here at the office we have a large format HP printer (not my decision) and it works well but it has had it's fair share of issues and it is only 18 months old. I would seriously consider going back to our old Epson dot matrix printer before I buy another HP at home.

I've been using HP printers for a few years. I did have one with a printhead problem, but for whatever reason it started working again (after I had bought another printer of course!) That one is a photosmart, and my newer one is an officejet. The officejet seems to be better with the ink usage, so I would recommend that. I got a decent deal on the 7500A (wide format) all-in-one.

We had been three years, two Brother DCP-110C multifunction devices. I was really pleased with it because I got low-cost ink cartridges for it. The print quality and the scanner was also fine. It happened that we did not use the printer for several weeks. Now both print heads were clogged and a cleaning was no longer possible. I have now decided to buy separate devices again. I opted for the Canon ip 4800th Because I get the cartridges for 2.50 € each. The scanner I chose the Epson Perfection V330 (CCD) technology. The devices will only be used privately.
Multi-function devices are compact and relatively inexpensive solution. The downside is when the scanner or the printer failed, that the entire unit must be discarded.

I have a Brother all in one printer, can print up to A3, really good reliable machine for a four years old, I normally buy ink from Costco (bulk packs) so the prices are great considering printer ink is probably the most expensive liquid on earth.
If I was to replace it I'd look at HP as they are very cheap and ink is available everywhere and I guess wireless printing from any and every device is a great plus feature that I miss with the old tech Brother printer.

.I spent quite a lot of time researching printers yesterday (Epson, Canon, HP, Lexmark & Brother). The problem I found is that most of the multifunction printers seem to be geared towards quality photo printing and tend to suck when it comes to general colour documents, which what I tend to do most.
The only exceptions appear to be a handful of the Canon models and up until this morning I was settled on the MG6250 - despite concerns about it's wifi and ink consumption. However I had another go at fixing my current printer and managed to get it working again. I know it's only a temporary fix, but it buys me some more time to consider my options and look at separate printers and scanners.
