Upload to 3D Warehouse error message
-
I have tried repeatedly to upload a model to the 3D Warehouse. I have tried to do this from five different pc's both at my home, at a local restaurant using their WIFI and from my mother's house. I go through the process of filling in all the file information on the upload page, hit upload and I get this error message:
"The webpage at http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/upload?uptyp=mn might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error."Since I have attempted this from a variety of different computers at various locations, I have to conclude that this is a problem with Google not liking what I am sending. Yet I get no error message like file size is too large from Google, all I get is the above message from my browser. When I ask the web browser to run a diagnostic it finds that the internet connection is working correctly. I have tried this using a variety of Internet Explorer browsers as well as Google Crome.
Does anybody know how to fix my problem?

Hi Jeff,
I have seen your post in the help forums, too. I know that there was an error in the 3D Warehouse but I am not sure they have fixed it. How big is your model?
-
The .kmz file is 15 mb. The error was just a drawing error, something I did not like the look of in the model itself, not like a data error. It would seem to me if the file size of the model or the thumbnail for instance was too big, Google would return with an error message specific to that. I get noting - just that the internet connection failed as if there is no web page for my browser to go to.

The upload file size limit is 10Mb. True that there would be nice to have a warning of the size exceed but it seems there is none. You will need to "shrink" that file at least by 1/3 I am afraid. If it is for GE, even more.

Well, you are the first to take the time to help me, so thank you! But, how do I shrink the file size?

As I see, over the help forums, they also tried - just the file size did not turn out.
First of all, purge everything not used in the file. Go to window > model info > statistics and at the bottom...
If this is not enough, best is to start with image textures. Make sure that if you used photos as textures, right click on the face and make texture unique. Here is a plugin that can help doing on the whole file.
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=41441If you already exported to kmz, rename the file extension to zip and open it. Inside, there will be some folder with the images. If there are some really big ones, edit them and make them smaller and also compress. Here is a plugin that can do it in your model, too.
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=40720A "normal" model for GE (to stream efficiently on the end user's computer) should not be more than 1 Mb. Maybe 2 Mb if otherwise really complex. Especially if there are many 3D buildings in the neighbourhood already.
