Mouse button/wheel don't navigate properly

With a 3-button mouse, I'm supposed to be able to move between navigation tools (Orbit, Pan, Zoom) using just a combination of the mouse wheel and left button, but it doesn't work. I must always select the Orbit tool from the toolbar, and then use the shift key to Pan. Then I must go back to the toolbar to reselect the tool I was originally using, (e.g Push/Pull).
I'm fairly certain that when I first started using SU, the mouse reacted properly, but now it doesn't. Could it be because I moved up to the Pro version?

Hi Beeo, welcome to SCF.

You really haven't given us a lot of useful info but let's take a stab. Did you get a new mouse? Is it a Logitech mouse? Did you install the driver for the mouse? If so, you may be able to go into the mouse setup and remap the CMB so it works. It seems the best bet has been to skip loading the driver for Logitech mice and just use the default mouse driver.

But if you are new to Sketchup, try to get used to using the shortcut key's.

Mice wear out. If you can, try reprogramming your button to a different function (mute, zoom, etc) and try it in a different program and see if it works. If it doesn't, you probably need a new mouse. This just happened to me with my Logitech V450 Laser Mouse. Everything was working fine, and then the middle button became sporadic and finally stopped working. Tried a new mouse and everything was fine.

Hi folks.

After buying a 5 button Logitech wireless mouse for my iMac, I installed the supplied driver to be able to use the extra buttons on the side. Big error. The mouse response became slow and erratic.

I uninstalled the driver and now use the one that comes with the Mac OS. I loose the functionnality of the two extra buttons but, anyway, I don't really need them. The standard driver can handle both the Magic Mouse and the Logitec mouse without problem. The only drawback is that using the Logitech mouse, the cursor moves too fast and I have to slow it down using the Mouse Control Panel. After that, it is the Magic Mouse that becomes slow. I mean that it takes more movement to cover the screen.

My experience on PC is that the drivers that come with Windows are usually sufficient for a standard 3 buttons mouse. Just make sure that you map the third button, the clickable roller, as button 3. This is also valid for the Mac.

Just ideas.

In case you haven't t contacted them yet, I have found the Logitech "help desk" to be helpful, responsive, and prompt on my occasion of difficulty, some years back.

Similar problems with Logitech drivers here on my WinXP system. To be fair, the support guys there are a helpful bunch, and they did put in a valiant effort, but they were unable to get me fixed up.
I've been a trackball user for a long time now (more room on the desk for half-drunk coffee cups and ashtrays, he he!!). The 'Marble Mouse' I have is beautifully smooth to use and it has the extra buttons and (supposedly) driver support to emulate the middle button and scroller.
Except that I have had nothing but problems getting it to work due to weird clashes with the driver for my (indispensable!) graphics tablet - so I am stuck with having to constantly switch tools, or get used to using a regular mouse again (oh my poor wrists!).
