Not responding
-
Does anyone know why my Sketchup Pro 8 keeps coming up with "Not responding" and remains dead for a good 30 seconds. This happens primarily when closing the programme / sketch. If I need to say copy one component from one sketch to another I get round it by opening 2 instances of the programme and copy from one to the other. It would be nice not to have to do this. Everything works fine apart from that. Have uninstalled / reinstalled the program and have the latest graphics driver. Windows 7 64 bit 6 Gb Ram Nvidia FX1800. Cheers Dave

One suggestion would be to check the file size. Window>Model Info> File, and Statistics. In Statistics, Purge Unused and Fix Problems. This may be something you already do.

This is a common problem with Windows 7 and large Sketchup files. It would be nice if Sketchup had a "Saving" status bar like Photoshop. Additionally, I've found that saving over a network can take two or three times longer than saving to a local hard drive. To verify that the program is really saving and is not frozen, you can look at the file that it is saving. You should see the file size actively increasing. BTW, what is the size of the file you are working on?

Thanks for your reply mitcorb & tahota. I have a feeling this is a Windows 7 issue and Sketchup Pro 8, we work here off a server, however my colleague has Win 7 and SU Pro 7 and that works ' as normal', ie instant close down , even with a large drawing open typically 3 to 4 Mb. Regarding File size,on my machine, if I open SU into a blank drawing template, then go to close the program or save the file the 'not responding' thing happens, so it seems independent of file size. It doesnt seem to take much longer with a large drawing open. Look forward to hearing any further suggestions you may have. -
One tip is to turn autosave off, or to less frequent, because that makes my large files unworkable because every few minutes I hang like crazy

From your specs and model size you should not have memory issue unless you are using grahics vs what you noted with large memory or maybe dual monitors. Their memory gets subtraced from what you can use because w7 till maintains compatibility with x32 that cannot use extended memory address space above the 4gb limit
Chack the two items of page two on this link especially the one about unchecking max memory use http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/5816-windows-7-64-bit-ram-issue-2.html
