(Help) EPS to SketchUp

If you have Adobe Illustrator, you can just save as DWG and import that to SU directly...

Please re-read his original post: he tried your suggestion beforeposting his request for help.

C'était moi, naturellement. Ouch! just got my head stuck in the door frame.
Yes, as my fellow Liverpudlian says, you need to determine the number of nodes, then convert the bezier to straight lines before export from Illustrator...otherwise you end up with thousands of segments.

If you have Adobe Illustrator this may help:
- Open your EPS file in Illustrator and select all.
- Go to Object>Path>Add Anchor Points. (by default when you click this it adds an anchor point in the middle of every other anchor point you have) The smoother you want your curves the more Anchor Points you will want to add.
- Then go to Object>Path>Simplify and check the "Straight Lines" box. Bring your "Angle Threshold" down to 0. You can check the preview box and see how it looks.
- Export as a .dxf/dwg file and insert into SU.
- Redraw one line so SU will recognize the shape and fill.
This is not an original solution by me.
It was posted on the old @Last forums but I can't remember by whom.Regards
Mr SMr S,
That is a perfect solution for me!
This is going to make my life a lot easier. Thanks for responding so quickly and for the easy to follow instructions. I vote for adding this to the Tutorials & How-to section.
Thanks again,

An Excellent Work around works for me also.

Hey,
When I try this one, nothing appears in SU? I can choose to import the ACAD file, but when I click "import", he gives me the following message:Than, as I said, i can not see my placed (vector) drawing anywhere. Like it's lost in space
What should I do?PS: I'm on a MAC

It is a shame SketchUp doesn't import EPS files directly or any other 2d vector/filled plane format (svg, wmf, emf, and so on).
I find this a big deficiency in an otherwise impressive piece of software. Sketchup ignores the windows clipboard making it a solitary runner as far as workflow is concerned. Interaction with other software is at best clumsy.
SketchUp Layout shares this contempt for the Windows clipboard. Logo’s, clipart, symbols and the like have to be reengineered.
Interaction with both programs is an exiting experience unfortunately punctuated by awkwardness when one tries to employ the benefits of other software.
Above all the requests for SketchUp development I would like to see this issue addressed.

Hi!
I'm new to this forum (and relatively new to Sketch-up) and I'm facing the same problem as Max. When I try following the steps, I just end up with a bunch of segmented curves. I suppose it's because I don't know how to follow the final step (redrawing the line so SU will recognize the shape). Can anyone explain how this is done?

My solutiom is.
- EPS to WMF
- WMF import in AutoCAD
- Save as DWG 2004 version

hi,
i wonder, if we finally get some stable and reliable tool to import vector files, like cdr, ai or eps to SU ?
coreldraw helps me to get complicated 2D design into SU, via dxf file.
when drawing contains minimum points, it´s become distorted. if contains plenty of points,
it´s become very complicated for further editing. (weld plugin too)
is there any plugin to get into into SU in perfect shape with minimum points to share our time and patience please?
maybe it´s time to tell the SU creaters to add import for vector formats into higher version of SU.
cheers !
