I thought that Jim Foltz and a few others had done something similar with modeling screw threads. It was a few years back? Maybe some of the same principles apply.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

There have been tutorials on drawing screw threads before but perhaps not here on SCF. I have used a modification the tutorial I'm thinking of to draw screws and bolts with adjustable length and head type

roughly it involves the use of 2 plugins: 'drawhelix14' and 'followmeandkeep' along with some boolean operations.

You should go ahead and make the tutorial and post it. That's different than the ways I do them. I have two depending upon the kind of threads.

What do you mean by 'kind of threats'?

Not "threats", threads. I do something different for machine threads as compared to those for woodcrews.

Ah I see, I'm only into the machine threads right now.. I'm planning to use them in a model
                  that will be 3D-printed..
