Send to layout to same location problem
-
I have used layout casually for working drawings in the past.
However my firstVERY VERYserious attempt to use layout, has hit a snag.- I use a horiz. and vert. grid system to identify the main structural members on a layer called grid in SketchUp for each floor, for a project I'm currently doing.
- I also went through the exercise of drawing a perimeter rectangular envelope/line to the scale I intend to export into my Layout drawing, on a new layer in Sketchup for each floor.
I was hoping it would help exporting theperimeter rectangular envelope/line and grid to Layout, to the exact same sheet location on each page of my predefined Layout pages.
Unfortunately each SketchUp perimeter rectangular envelope/line and grid does not end up in the same location on each page of my Layout drawings. This is very aggravating, even moving these elements in Layout does not snap them to same location on each Layout sheet. What am I doing wrong?

I am no expert but will try and help.
So you have drawn a grid in sketchup and put it on a layer. Good Idea.
Your perimeter rectangular envelope/line is also in the model? Not sure what scale you are trying to achieve but it sounds like you want whats in the square to be on each sheet in layout in the exact same place on each layout page? Are you using scenes in sketchup for each of your views you want in layout? Or are you just trying to control the views by turning on and off layers?
If I was going to try and do this I would use one scene for each view wanted. I would use a line above the model and use it to create my view for every scene with the position camera tool and then control the visibility with layers.
Now when you import you model into layout you can use your scenes to create your first viewport now just copy one view from your first page and paste in place to the next page. That takes care of all of your views being the same. Now on each page you should be able to adjust the view to each of your scenes to show different visibility of the model.
Here are a few links to vids with some good info.

Insert the first model where you want it on the page.
Then put something like a + (2 lines crossing each other and grouped (doesn't matter what you draw)) on a shared layer so that you can see the + on every page.
Move the + using precise move to some point on your model.
Then add a new page and insert your next model.
Using precise move, move the model to line up with the +.
