I'm using Win Xp Pro SP 3. I have seen good performance of sketchup on sp3 and even on sp2 on

%(#0000BF)[**--**a machine having a core 2 duo processor, 4gb ram
**--**a machine having core 2 quad proecessor, 2gb ram]

also good performance on a machine having
**--**a machine having core 2 quad proecessor, 2gb ram, windows vista 32 bit

But unfortunately. I have seen SketchUp perform slow on a system that has

Core i5, 4gb ram, Windows 7 64 bit, lots of free hard disk space, all the necessary drivers installed, no unncessary software. It was a clean system, with no viruses. In fact all of the tested system were free of viruses.

What seems to be the case.?? My peers also say that windows 7 64 bit performs slower than the 32 bit version.

Although, what logics say that Windows 7 64 bit on a good machine should have the best performance of SketchUp which I haven't seen in reality [in front of my eyes πŸ˜’ πŸ˜† ]

I use Win7 64bit on all my machines at home and at work. No performance issue there.

The place where I have seen performance issues has been related to graphic card hardware or drivers.

well that must be the case. What exactly have you seen. I mean were the graphic drivers out of date or what?

              In personal experience:

              • I found ATI cards to display glitches and artifacts more often than nVidia.

In noticing queries here on the forum:

              • Often users don't keep their drivers updated. They'll be running with the drivers that came with the computer.
              • Some graphic cards just don't have good hardware acceleration. This is usually with laptops and low end computers.
              • In some cases users had deactivated hardware acceleration within SketchUp without realising it.

If Windows7 had a performance problem in general then there'd be all over this forum. Any performance issues is most likely to be related to the graphic card or some other issue causing a system degradation.

right. Another thing I just think is that Win 7 requires more sources. It's minimum ram requirements is i guess 1 gb. on the other hand XP needs less resoures. It's lighter too. Then how come windows 7 will perform better? It will use more ram. On the other hand XP will use less RAM. The remaining RAM will be used by renderings and SketchUp. Isn't it ❓ πŸ˜’

What are the configs of processor and RAM that you're using? [on Windows 7]
