Ptex??
-
I wouldn't think that adding Ptex into SU would be possible - at least not without a lot of compromises?
OTOH you should be able to use Ptex in 3D-Coat and get your models into SU afterwards?

What about stand alone, like the way we can export a texture for editing and save it and the changes transfer to SU, can we not do the same for a component or mesh to Ptex?
-
Is it the paint feature you're after?
-
Yes, the 'texal' concept is brilliant.
-
Solo, did you down load the application, then run it? If you did, guess there wasn't a export / import feature. Looking at the "documentation", it seems that there is enough information to write an import / export program to produce a file that SU can read. However, I am not a expert on this matter, and it looks like a lot of work.

Yes you can, with 3D-coat. You paint with the Ptex texels in 3D-Coat and then export as UV mapped/baked object to import into SU. http://3d-coat.com/
Ptex only supports quads btw, afaik, which probably could be solved by the auto-retopology tools in 3D-coat v3.5 (I only have v2). -
I guess that is a solution...kinda. at $350.00
-
UU3D is $60 for the pro version and it imports and exports to skp. You can save UV maps to image, paint in PS and import back in to UU3D then expot to .skp. Steep learning curve though.
Have you ever used UV Layout?
-
It's well worth the rpice
The options at http://ptex.us/ , like C4D, Houdini, Mudbox etc won't be any cheaper for sure
Maybe MARI ? -
lol, Mari at $2000.00, cool app but not needed in my workflow.
Rich, what do you mean by UV layout? I use Deep UV/paint every so often.
-
Surprised you haven't used UV Layout. If you wanna see it in action I can screen share
-
Yea I would, Skype?

Guess I should have checked the price before mentioning it
Re 3D-coat - the price has increased a lot since I bought it a few years ago for $80, but so has the power of it. I think it's time for an upgrade soon
I have never used it much because I've made mostly archviz, but it talks nicely with LW - and AFAIK it loads/saves Collada too. And there is a 30-day fully functional trial.. -
What about blender,if I have understood correctly Nicholas Bishop has made a ptex patch http://www.nicholasbishop.net/
Sorry, have not tried that... -
Blender?
Did you know that it's easier to get a commercial pilot license than learn Blender?
-
Then go with 3D-coat or there is Ptex plugins for major modellers (max, C4D, ...). You have Max?

Have you looked at the new beta?

I know there are numerous 3rd party apps that can achieve the UV solutions SU lacks, however I really like the Ptex system.
I guess I'm hoping for a SU solution still, without needing to add more apps to my workflow, export, import, just a simple, easy solution.
