Selection Tool troubles

When i use the selection there is no rectangular box displayed on the sceen...it selects everything the same as if there was a box, but I have to imagine the box. Is there an option or setting I need to change? Because every tutorial I watch the selection tool makes a box. What do I do???

Try changing your OpenGL settings under Preferences>OpenGL. Specifically try changing Use Hardware Acceleration. And see if that changes anything for you. You might also check to see if you can update the video drivers.
