Recommend Doors for residential use
-
Can anyone recommend a set of doors in the 3d warehouse for residential modeling. I am doing house models, so I want something that looks right and is correct but not so heavily detailed I can't fit them in the model. I downloaded a nice looking door from the 3d warehouse. I thought I better just remove some of the back faces on the frames, don't need those! Eventually I discovered that even the innards of the lockset was modeled with thicknesses for each part. At first I was surprised the screw heads actually sat in beveled holes, but then the oval head knob screws each probably had as many polygons that I had in the house so far!
Not sure why anyone does this sort of thing, to model standard hardware which no one will ever see (except me). Someone got the modeling bug, I guess -

Or someone just downloaded and assembled ready-made objects instead of modeling them themselves ?
Frankly, it would probably take you much less time to just model a few doors yourself, with full control of everything. -
SketchUp has become much more accepted in the manufacturing world and now many companies offer SU files of their doors and windows on their sites... have a look around at the big boys... some of their models suck but some are sufficient.

But if SU could take my floor plan and automatically place 3d doors and windows, I wouldn't mind it. Instead I will take whatever I find useful and add features for assemblies to match my method. There is nothing unique about the doors (unless I find clients who want to pay for custom designed doors).
Thanks Bjornkn and Kris for answering.

It's animated and you can change door size, door opening angle etc very easily with the dialog box
..............
Hope this helps

Thank you Howard,
I've downloaded your door component and have been considering it for an approach to my doors.
