I need a tutorial on how to create faces(polygons) formed by the lines of a dxf drawing that I import from Chief Architect. I want to extrude these faces. Book, video, anything, I'll buy it.

      Thanks.

I may get some of this right:
The basic native Sketchup method is to trace over line by line. That assumes that the imported file is clean and flat, has no blocks and was positioned at 0,0,0 prior to import.

Another Sketchup way was mentioned here within about the last 24 hours by TIG: Draw a humongous circle on the z=0 plane that encompasses the imported dxf. Select all including the circle, right click> Intersect selected or with model. Most of the geometry will face. Erase the circle at its edge. Do some completion with line by line tracing.

A ruby way is to use MakeFaces, a plugin available either from the Sketchucation Plugins Index, Smustard, or Ruby Library Depot.

I hope maybe a splinter of this is helpful.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Interesting method by TIG. I will have to try that.

In any case, I just bought the sMustard script, along with something they have that repairs the dxf.

Thanks for your helpful reply, mitcorb.
