Fantastic, Eric, thanks for the explanation. I guess I should have paid more attention to this, not to sandbags 😄

You tried hard to have some thickness on the helmet, you didn't manage to have it in the end. Its wrong.
All this time spent for this, you could do lot of helmets in other apps. And much better. I had to watch this eraser and joins, producing wrong topology. Wondering, "how these experts do it in SU". Well, no secrets, the same way I could do. But I won't. I'm using other apps for this. My advise , try groboto. A cheap and humble app. http://www.groboto.com/v3/

I can guess he just made an offset of the mesh, he could set thickness to it, if he wanted that. JointPushPull(the plugin used for the action) have this option.

There are many 3d software on the market...everybody chooses the one he thinks it's best for him. But no software will do the geometry alone, user must spend time for this.

My advise: try Google Sketchup. A FREE app with a great supporting community here on Sketchucation 💚 http://sketchup.google.com/
Indeed groboto seems to be a great application, but criticizing other's work will is not a good way to promote it 😄 .

I did not try at all to have thickness on the helmet. I did not want it. It is not wrong.

I don't promote any app. Others do.
              maybe artisan a little lol
I'm suggesting to use SU as a helper for other more capable apps, that what I do. Cheap or free apps, not max and vray or vue.
Apps like zbrush or 3dcoat don't need promotion. Especially zbrush. Do you know how many members in zbrushcentral? My last post had 50000 visitors so far.
about the thickness: I just tried to add thickness using same plugin. Not always possible.
I'm testing new builds of blender now, this app is much more capable for this sort of modeling, and its also free. It also supports collada1.4 and exports clean 3ds, So...
Boofredley, you're a talented man, don't spend your time with wrong apps. If you're searching for a stand alone app in 3d world you wont find it. SU is for simple accurate building modeling. I missed this in other apps so I use 2-3 as a chain now. Why not?

My crits on this video, its obvious that symmetry is an issue in SU, artisan or other plugins.

This forum is locked. Why so?

Yes, I know all the threads, I'm not blind. I insist though, you have to visit lot of forums around.
To show me 1-6 months projects doesn't help. We're talking about organic modeling here and these threads have nothing to do with it.
If you like organic modeling visit zbrushcentral or 3dcoat forum or cgtalk or ...
If you like, visit my thread here (a two-three days project) http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=32148

You can't or you don't want to see my point.
That you are trying to avoid apps when talent is needed to use them. This is wrong, don't do this to yourself.

                        I´m not.
I was just trying to lower this unnecessary tension. No disrespect intended ( I am very well aware of michalis´ artistic capabilities ).
But I am sure there´s plenty of nit-picking in such "SketchUp vs. this or that" debating.

Sorry if I created any debate. I was merely trying to explain that different people prefer to use different programs. Michalis, you surely do have a ton of talent and I did not mean to disrespect you or your opinion in any way. 😄 Again, I apologize.
