Help ! preferences menue doesn't show up

i try to reset my workspace, but the preferences menue doesn't show up
Instead, SU freezes and i have to pull the emergency-brake
whats wrong here?

Isn't the "reset workspace" inside the "preferences" window?

Have you tried re-installing it?
