Matched photo with models - how to change direction (north)
-
I have modeled a scene with Photo Match - it means, matched a photo and then added some components to the scene and everything fits together. Afterwards I realized that the shadows on the photo do not match any possible shadow settings in SU. In other words, the photo was matched to the wrong axis, in wrong direction. I am using SU8 Free so North is fixed to green axis.
Is there a method to rotate everything (all models together with the matched photo) around z-axis, not touching the scale and perspective, just rotate?

Hi Darkzone,
Sure there is. Select all (Ctrl+A) and make a big group of your model to make sure you rotate everything together. Then just simply use the Rotate tool to rotate everything around the blue axis. If you look down when trying to align it and hover over empty space near the model, t will turn into blue. Then it means that it will rotate around the blue axis. Press the Shift key to lock it into this direction and start rotating.

Hello, thanks, but doing this way will not rotate the matched photo itself. I can first rotate the models and then start matching the same photo again and try to fit it to the existing models. That's something I wanted to avoid. I'd like to rotate everything, together with the photo.
I need the photo rotated because the whole scene is not finished yet and I'll be adding some details later, i still need a scene with matched photo to know where to add components.

Will you need the matched photo at the end? If not, you can just do the whole rotation at the end. If yes, I know no way to "transfer" the matched photo to a rotated scene but then I may just be inexperienced with PhotoMatch.
How about rotating the North completely instead? In the Pro version, there is a tool for it. If you do not have the Pro, here is a plugin:

This plugin solved my issue. Thanks!

Ah, good. SketchUp is the world of workarounds. And in fact, I believe that human laziness is what makes progress (you are always thinking about how nothave to do something or if it is ultimately necessary, how to do it easier).

I have the same problem to rotate the match photo, please provide the name of the plugin.
Many Thanks

You don't need to rotate the photo. You may need to re-orient the axes. You can just re-orient them directly without a plugin or if you want to redefine solar north, get the Solar North plugin from the Extension Warehouse.
