It should work in v8 as well as in v7... However, I suggest you find my 'Hole Punch Tool' in the Plugins Index - it's the next generation and offers better results like the hole can stay linked to the component across sessions and moves/erases with it etc... or it can be un-linked/un-punched/re-punched on a swap etc...
