I just noticed that under under the ruby API for model.raytest, a new flag has been added to select whether hidden entities should be returned or not:
"An optional flag, added in SU8 M1, indicating whether or not to consider hidden geometry in intersection computations. If this flag is not specified, it defaults to true (WYSIWYG) - i.e. hidden geometry is not intersected against."
Yay! However, my version of SU8 (downloaded yesterday) doesn't seem to be this M1 version. Anyone know anything about it?

Mx refer to maintenance releases in SketchUp - you can see that from their Release Log. The original release is M0 - so M1 is referring to an unreleased maintenance release. They appear to have jumped the gun when updating the API docs.
I'm pretty sure this must be recent update of the docs. Wonder what other updates there is. -
Does this mean 8.1 is on the cards or just 8.0.#?
Hopefully they address the raytracing issue. Shame it didn't make it out for Xmas. Good news none the less.

I really, REALLY hope that they bump up the second number this time ... instead of releasing releases by only build number.
I pushed for this but did not get a solid answer, other than something like "the issue of version numbers is complex..."
If you are going to release a revision (to anything,) it is common engineering practice to bump up a revision number.
-
But isn't the last number the revision number?
Isn't it Major.Minor.Revision? That's how I label the versions of my plugins. If they contain only bug fixes I bump the last number - when I add features I bump the middle - when I do major changes/rewrites I bump the first.
-
No the last number is a compiler build number. There are likely many compilations that no one outside of Google ever sees (as they are not stable.)
-
Thanks for all the explanations. Hopefully we'll see the new release soon!

And now I'm REALLY hoping for M2... the toolbar entries in my Registry are up to 566 and growing !!
Sketchup is very slow to startup. (sigh.. manual delete of registry keys, again.. and again.)
