Need help converting a 3ds file to a skp file
-
Hi guys Durrant here, i came across some useful contemporary/modern pieces of furniture i could use for my model but they have no texture and are oversized when i import the 3ds file into sketchup.
Thanx

If they are too big, just scale them down to the right size with the scale tool. (Press S to activate the tool, or find it under the tools menu)
Now about the textures... Sorry, I don't use 3ds files, so I don't know that to tell you

I have rarely had any success in bringing in textures through 3DS import. If you have the original material folder for the file, you may need to manually set up the materials in SU. If you have a way to convert the 3DS file to DAE - I've had most success with getting the right scale and getting geometry to come in correctly. For materials, I've had most success with OBJ files. Good luck.

thank you guys, i resized the model and applied my own texture, but it took too much time as the model has too many lines on the model that i had to erase

When you import 3ds files, there is an option to merge coplanar faces. This should get you rid of most of the extra (triangulated) edges. Then you can additionally use some clean-up plugin like this one:
