SketchUp SDK error
-
I keep on getting a "SketchUp SDK Error" whenever I try to export a 3D file in an format apart from Collada or skp. I've been modelling in SU 7, then opening up the evaluation copy of 8 Pro in order to export. Any ideas why I can't get rid of this? (I tried using the on screen instructions, but it doesn't make any difference).
Guys?

I just tried again, but with a much simplified model, and had no problem at all.
But I want to use the other model!!
arghhhhh! Perhaps I'll try in Windows?
-
No one?
I'm noticing that if I break my model all up into different groups, it is okay, and I don't get this message- but it's hardly practical!
-
Nope. The message does indicate it is a known issue, but I do not see it in the list.

I'm beginning to think that this is an Autodesk fbx exporter issue. I read in other areas that the sdk is buggy as hell.
I really wish Unity 3d read skp files!! I'm exporting stuff one by one now. It's really labourious and boring. Some work, others fail (and it's not complex parts/ creations that fail either- some are really simple). I've error checked them all- no problems there.
strange.

Hi,
It isn't clear from your posts what you're trying to do, though we do expect (in general terms) that exporters using our SDK should be able to create exported files in all our supported formats without errors. I'm willing to help you troubleshoot this problem, but will need some more information to do so.
Specifically, I need to know more about your model (can you post it for me to look at directly?) and I need to know the export format you are trying to use (is it .fbx?)

Hi John.
I'm sorry for not being more clear. What I meant to say was, that I had an entire house that was created in SketchUp, but after trying to export the house as an fbx file, I ran into a problem where that little warning window popped up, just before the export had finished and the fbx export wouldn't go any further.
I've exploded the entire house now, and exported each group individually (most of which, including some really complicated bits, have been fine)- whilst doing this I also found the offenders, that were stopping me from exporting to fbx (and 3DS and OBJ!). I've actually now redone them, and haven't had a problem with either of the new exports. But one thing they both have in common were that they were both rescaled at some point using the Scale tool. Some parts, if I remember, were also part drawn on another computer, in another office elsewhere. So here is one of the offenders, 1 simple floor plank! (I've also included the rebuilt version- which works)
Perhaps you can shed some light on this?

Thanks, Tom- very helpful. I'll pass the offending object on to our testing folks to see if they can reproduce your problem in the lab.
