Can't download Sketchup

I'd very much like to start using sketchup but am having a problem downloading the program (basic for now). I've had a couple of IT types compare Sketchup hardware requirements versus the configuration of my Toshiba Satellite laptop and the concesus is that hardware isn't the problem. I've logged on to the internet as administrator and started the download process which proceeded normally downloading "Google SketchUp Installer, Version 8.0". However when the Windows Installer window popped up everything stopped there. Nothing I've tried has changed the result. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide me. Really looking forward to getting into SketchUp.

How long are you waiting when it 'stops'? SketchUp does spend a little time at the beginning of the install sequence.
