Plug in help

Hello all,
How do I get the plug in menu on my sketch up 8. I am trying to get and use cutlist 4.0. I am using a Mac OS 10.6.4.Please help me! I am frustrated beyond measure.

you have to install plugins before the plugin menu will show up... I don't have a Mac so I'm not sure if something is different. also make sure the plugin you have installed does not need to be turned on in extensions under preferences. have you checked all of the menus and the toolbars for it?

Thanks for the help. But yes I have done all that. I think there is something to do with a mac. Thanks again.

What is the path of the folder you put the plugin into? And are you sure it this plugin is going to install itself to the plugins menu? It could install itself to ANY of the menus. Make sure to look at them all. do you have a link to where you got the plugin from? someone could look at it and see what menu it puts itself into if that would help,
Chris

i assume you're talking about the cutlist plugin as seen at this page:
http://lumberjocks.com/daltxguy/blog/5143use the link on that page "download v4.0.7 here"
unzip when it comes in (or maybe your browser is set to do it automatically).. either way, unzipped you'll have a folder called "cutlist_4"
open that folder and you'll see two files:
CutListAndMaterials.rb and a folder named
cutlistuiplace those two files at:
Macintosh HD/ Library/ Application Support/ Google SketchUp 8/ SketchUp/ pluginslaunch sketchup and the item 'Cut List' will appear in the plugins menu.

Jeff,
Thank you. I have the plugin on sketchup now. It says general cutlist and when I click on it I get this "No Components available to make a Component Report !". Now what is the problem? I am wondering if this is worth all the aggravation. -
If this is the same cutlist plugin cited in the above post by Jeff Hammond then what you need to do is make all your geometry into either a group or component before you run the plugin. My personal preference is to make things into components, I rarely use groups and then only temporarily until it is made into a component. So if you are making a simple rectangular box with an identical top and bottom, sides and front/back you will have 3 components. One component will consist of the top and bottom, the second component will consist of the two sides and the third component will consist of the front and back. For this plugin to work everthing should be either a component or group (ideally a component with an identifying name). If there is geometry that is not one of these the plugin will not give a useful cutlist. I suspect that in your situation, none of your geometry has been made into either a component or group and that is why you are getting the error message. Hopefully this helps.
