An actual 3D Model, not just CAD
-
Hi everyone,
I wondered if any of you had ever exported your models and actually had them built as real tangible models to hold in your hands.
I need to explore this and;
a. wondered if you knew which export options i need to use
b. ever had it done and could recommend a 3D modelling company in the UKfingers and toes crossed that someone does..
thanks

ha, yeah.. all the time. (but honestly, they're much too heavy to hold in my hands
)i think you're looking for 3D printing services (as in, they print in 3 actual dimensions)
(there's a 3D printing service that advertises here on the forums.. i'm pretty sure that's them but can't be sure.. the mayor around here, Mike Lucey, made a thread about them.. i'll see if i can find it.)
[edit -- yeah, that's the company i was thinking about but Mike's thread didn't have much info beyond the link in it:

Here's that link Jeff mentioned: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=27469&p=237913&hilit=imaterialise#p237913
...and this recent challenge: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=27746&hilit=i.materialise#p240543

Different objects will require different model-making processes. The 3d modeling process you decide on will help determine the best way to export your Sketchup model.
