It probably took 2 months to complete from start to finish. It was modeled entirely in SketchUp. Then imported to 3ds Max 2010 for texturing and lighting. It was rendered with mental ray. I used After Effects for the post work and shot editing. It's a composition of 11 different cameras. For most shots I rendered 5 different passes and combined them together in post. People have been asking about my "After Effects" work. I basically use the same process that Alex Roman uses in his Third & the Seventh project.
These are some other renderings and shots from the SketchUp model:

Well done indeed. I am very impressed.
-
Excellent work, both modeling and animation
-
very impressive. Really good work.
-
fantastic work
-
Awesome...
I like it A LOT...!!
Well done...!! -
Joke. This should be just a joke.
I have no words.
Fantastic work. Congratulation. -
superb...
-
Very impressive! The DOF does indeed look odd, though.
-
Really nice! Only a strange and unnatural DOF in some scenes of the animation IMO...
-
beautiful! i agree about blur, bit OTT in parts but interesting nonetheless
can we see large version of the section render please? looks very nice
-
fantastic IMO, I like the DOF, very Alex Roman. The 3rd and the 7th took him 2 years, for you achieve this in 2 months is superb. Could i get a bit more info on your after effects workflow, or even better the Alex Roman worflow you used for this?
-
Simply wonderful - a really stunning animation - DOF was "different".
-
STUNNING ...just a question, what was the computer hardware configuration
Processor, Ram and video card ? -
Houston, we have lift off!
One thing I would suggest to improve it, though, would be...nothing.
Love the Big Ass Fans -
Straight out stunning work mate! I love it!
I would suggest I wanted the action just a bit faster, I sense you got a lot of inspiration from Alex's work but they are two different fish and for me demand a different tact. It's a school and therefore could just for me use some speed! Mind you it doesn't take away from a GREAT WORK!
When I grow up (not likely) I want to be you!
-
Stunning video - the way they should be done! I hate the fly-arounds many clients want that make me dizzy and a little sick to my stomach.. 2 months sounds about right... a lot of work to do this here.
-
its great, but kinda spooky as its so big and compleatly empty, still with lights burning and blades spinning...
would have loved to see some humanoid forms, even just outlines or shadows or something...
i feel like the place has been hit by a neutron bomb haha
fantastic rendering otherwise
-
Bravo! Great movement, scene changes and good choice of music.
Only 2 months? Even more impressive. I'm no SketchUp master (yet), but I used to work in film and TV and this is well done!
-
When you say "2 months to complete". Was that just your time, or were others involved? 40, 50 or 60 hour weeks?
I'm always floored at bosses and clients that think these types of thing take a couple of days.
Well done. Congrats
