    Hi everyone,

For people that model vehicles this site is very useful http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/
    (posted here before several times)

Where do architects get existing plans from? I am especially interested in modern architecture since 1920. I found some in my books but they are mostly printed too small. Google picture searching did not give any results. I guess that it is not that easy, and I fear that such an extensive resource like the blueprints for architecture does not exist on the web.
Universities? Libraries? How do you architects get hold of blueprints? Please could someone point me to the right trail?

    thanks in advance
    alex

I recall using this site for some research. I know there are some plans here, but just gleaned it from my bookmarks so I hope it is some use. http://www.greatbuildings.com/architects.html
I also did some research on Marion Mahoney Griffiths on this site http://digital-libraries.saic.edu/cdm4/index_magic.php?CISOROOT=/magic
I hope these are of some help.
Universities usually have great digital collections, so if there is a specific building you are looking for try the University in that city, or at least area.
Good luck, and please post your outcomes on this.

You can download DesignWorkshop Lite and export DW models as DXF. Or some of the models could already posted as DXF (just reading their blurb).

Great Buildings is definitely a massive collection. More than half of the Buildings have drawings attached, unfortunately they are all very small, like the ones from my books.
So what, this is way more reference than I have ever expected to find, I will get a good overview - and when a drawing with more resolution can't be found on the web then hopefully I can purchase a book on that respective architect.

                thanks a lot Dale!

...and then there are even models available, didn't try them yet - guess they need a high dosis of Thomas' cleanup ruby πŸ˜‰
btw, what is a "blurb" Peter?

There are actually a lot of drawings on line. Like these at Columbia University. Or try University of Virginia....Just keep looking.
