Is the Gallery section starting to resemble 3DWH?

I thing that a 'Native Sketchup' Gallery, A 'Renders' Gallery and a 'WIP' Gallery would probably work.
WIP threads are a good way for people to get more feedback - sometimes when posting a completed model you won't get as much.

Hmm ... I like the sound of that. Possibly that would encourage people who don't use render engines to post more often. And I for one feel native SU output can be quite beautiful.
However, when exactly does an image stop being "native SU"?
-
surely when it's been changed outside of su?
-
Okay, imagine this: I export a large image from SU. I then downsample it in Photoshop, so that I end up with crisp edges.
Native or not?
-
We used to have the "native" and "rendered" subforums in the gallery. To be honest, it was not very successful. I do not know how it would work nowhowever (with maybe 10 times more members although admittedly not all are actively posting). Where would Tomsdesk's watercolour things go now? And where would they go knowing that for some layers of the images he also uses rendering engines?
Me personally, when visiting the gallery, do not make too much difference based on the "media" that conveys the idea but the idea is the more important.
-
not, you haven't changed the content of the image

pps: Definition of wanker:
Β°(British AU NZ slang pejorative) An idiot, a stupid, annoying or ineffectual person.
Here is what it means here though...First coined in the early 80βs, a wanker is one who currently resides or was born on the westbank of New Orleans, La (Gretna, Marerro, etc). Derived from itβs origin βwestbankβ (west of the Mississippi River), wankers are most commonly lower income, blue collar Caucasians, who typically speak with poor grammar and in loud tones. Wankers can be easily identified by a fake tan, skirts 3 sizes too small, spikey hair, and domestic cars. It is not uncommon for wankers to get married at an early age (18-25), as well as having children during that same time period. Common physical characteristics of female wankers include outfits that scream for attention but come across as desperate, heavy makeup, possibly fake breasts if they decide to use what small amount of college savings their parents have accumulated on them, and big sunglasses. In males, spiky guido hair is the most dominant characteristic, as well as poorly managed steroid abuse, extra small shirts, stud earrings, and unfashionable shoes. Wankers will often travel out of their element into the Eastbank, where they congregate at clubs such as Republic or The Venue, where for that short span of time try to feel like they fit in with the rest of New Orleans society.
So, just don't call anyone from the US South a wanker.... -
Evan, you just described a Redneck.
-
I just realize that there are wankers all around the world!
Thank god they do not know the word here (although when they suspect someone calls them names they do not understand, they get suspicious that those words are not very flattering either)
When my mom once yelled at her 2-y-o grandson saying "are you normal"? the little kid got scared and with a sad face answered "No, I am not normal"!
Obviously didnot know the meaning... -

Ouch, that hurt. I am from the west bank XD
But getting back to the point...I kinda want the gallery to stay the same, why change the system when it could do more harm than good? -

Deja vu!..... This same discussion happened at the original SU Forum many years ago. Some felt the quality of the submissions was substandard. Hence many Architectural types left and created a separate forum.
I would leave the structure as is. If you have a need for more professional opinions and feedback, then goto the appropriate forum, such as http://www.pushpullbar.com/But be careful! posting crap over there wont be tolerated, and you could endup bleeding.

native in my opinion. A screenshot would be 'raw'

How many times can a car model be "Modded" by adding increasingly bigger rims, rear wings, and lowering the vehicle? It becomes pointless to visit the warehouse (I like to call it the Sh*@house), as there is not really anything there of much value anymore.
As time goes on, I agree with what you said more and more. People upload "The most detailed line ever", or "The roundest box ever" to the 3DWH... Not to mention the fact that there are three spammers on there right now. Honestly, I don't think that the good balances out the bad anymore. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d534f833ef926de7f257e6407cc45a4f&prevstart=0 It's rather sad where it's gone. There used to be more people who really cared about their work like Xayzer. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?uq=0638468642647248596253588&scoring=m It's really becoming worse every day...

And then there are rednecks like me who just southern the place up
-
Leave it as it is. The wip and finished works separations will lead to a complete mess, it happened to other forums (blenderartists). Just tell me where to place the thread of Durant Hapke? Where the "contest like" threads of solo? A separate topic like "tests" could be interesting though.
Avoid a voting system (like five stars) too, this will only show that there are some "clubs" inside SCF community. It already smells like this to me... -
As a total noob here I'd just like to add that for someone who doesn't know their way around there is so much to sort through.
Personally I think it would be helpful if the gallery had subsections.
It seems to me that a gallery is a place to display finished work, be it good or bad.
Perhaps a subsection simply called the drawing office or drawing board or the workshop, something that gives it an obvious use, where all the WIPs can be viewed with a link to the final Image, or images, that have eventually been placed in the gallery with a link back. This way you can look through the finished work and easily find the relevant WIP or happily follow the WIPs themselves.
I also agree with others that have said it's better to post a separate thread when you want an answer to a question. I have a lot of experience with forums, as a user and moderator, and threads with a specific question in their header get a much higher answer rate than questions buried in other threads. It also makes searching for answers more effective.
And I'm have been happily amazed by the helpfulness of all the people here.
Thank you all. -

I say leave things the way they are, It just takes a click to get out of a thread with works one may feel trivial, and then you can ignore it from there onwards.
Maybe folks could use 'WIP' in the title also.
I agree with Pete and others that think we should keep it as is. Adding "WIP" to the subject line, or ""no post work", "Podium render" etc. would be enough. Easy enough to click through and pick out you personal interest.
Some years ago the moderators simplified the forum and I think it has been and will be for the best.
