Ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat Reader - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
or via Firefox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
That should automatically install the Firefox Plugin ?
Or at least 'repair' the installation...
You can also do that from the Reader's Help Menu...

seems to be a win7 ultimate issue! http://www.4xpdf.com/2009/05/adobe-reader-windows-7-browser-viewing-still-dead/
is there a way to get the browser to open it externally ? -

Id guess you could right click the file and 'save as...' then just open it form the desktop.
Alternatively, uninstall acrobat and install a decent PDF viewer, then (in firefox), go edit->preferences->applications and set PDF to your shiny new PDF viewer.

yes! thanks for your tip. i have foxit reader and the firefox plugin and i disabled the acrobat plugin and expected firefox would use foxit to open pdf.
it didn't.
your tip made me relook so i went to tools>options>applications and associated pdf with foxit. now it works
i would have expected that havig foxit plugin and disabling acrobat would have been suficient but NO.
