Snapping one surface to another

Hello everybody, this is my first post. I've been using SketchUp for about a year, but only discovered this Forum now while looking for help with a particular problem. What I want to do is attach one group to another, without having to calculate angles and distances.
I have a model consisting of several identical tetrahedra. The distance between the tetrahedra may be arbitrary, and likewise the orientation. I'd like to attach one tetrahedron to the another, then attach another to this assemblage, and keep on building until I have a structure consisting of joined tetrahedra.
I use tetrahedra in this example, but I'd like to be able to effect such joining between any multi-faceted shapes, provided that they have at least two congruent faces.
I suspect there is no easy way to do this, but hope I'm wrong.

try this, you may have to use a little imagination along with the video to do what you want but it should work.

Is each a group or a component instance?
Joining: along one base edge or face-to-face?
A few? (by hand, SketchUp tools) or a lot? (Ruby program needed)

A few? (by hand, SketchUp tools) or a lot? (Ruby program needed)Each is a group, and it is desired to join them face-to-face. Not a lot, just a few one at a time. The angles between the faces before joining will be difficult to calculate on paper, which is why a simple rotate/move is not practical.

not much of a description there but if you play a little it work quite well.
