Downloading materials

How do you copy an image from somewhere and turn it into a material. Example: mulch, wall stone, etc. I've tried with no success, I've tried creating a folder with in my materials folder in Sketchup and downloading it there, I've tried importing directly into sketchup, some images are JPG's so I turn them into Skp files and nothing!!

You have to "import as texture" in order to make it a .skm (sketchup material)
If you search in the Plugins forum, I believe there is a plugin to help with mass importing materials but I can't think what its called now...
