FBI wants records kept of Web sites visited
-
my understanding of the problem was that they failed to turn existing information in to action rather than an inability to get usable information in the first place.
With regards to the quality of the information that would be made available via monitoring peoples browsing history, it would certainly not be the be all and end all, and its very unlikely youd ever catch someone planning to blow something up purely via going through their browsing history.
I do think it could be incredibly useful as an additional information though, as a persons browsing history can tell you a huge amount about what they're doing even if you dont explicitly know what it is they're looking at. You wouldnt have to be a genius to look at my browsing history and realise im pretty heavily involved with SCF.
Finally, a point about the OP, the link doesnt mention keeping any information other than which sites are visited, so how you concluded that

your ISP also holds all your emails on their servers
i really dont know.

As a side note, im really just playing devils avocado. I think storing peoples browsing history is a very bad idea as i dont think it's acceptable to treat the majority as if they're criminals to catch criminals.

We are all now guilty until we prove ourselves innocent !
PS: did you try my hidden-text trick within a jpeg - it's petty neat ? ...but it's useless unless you are 'up to no good'?

BTW FBI is in The USA. So far one US respondent to this thread. We all know the quality of work we get from the FBI. It about equals that of the Army Corps of Engineers (who drowned New Orleans).
As a US citizen I just want to add from the Irish statesman:
John Philpot Curran in 1790: "It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance."
If we could spell it, we'd know who the indolent are.

well igoogle already has my browsing history and bookmarks!
but i actually find it very handy.i think the problem (danger) is that once a group or "task force" is formed for a certain purpose that they will carry out that purpose in ever expanding circles till they make themselves useful, after all they need to prove their existence, they can't just one day say, "you know, its been 5 years now and we just havn't found anything. i think you should just get rid of us.". its more likely "its been X years now and we havn't found anything, we need more power so we can dig deeper. you're tying our hands by leaving joe public privacy rights. take them away.".
once you start down a path, right or wrong, it seems to inherit a will of its own. drug along by believers and followers.
its kinda like "we can't find WMD unless you let us invade and start killing and torturing some info out of these people". -
I think, before becoming paranoid about Big Brother, one should read that article carefully. It suggests that internet providers retain non-content records of web sites visited (not e-mails), and those would be available only to law enforcement with the proper authorization (warrants). Similar to phone records.

If you read all of my earlier diatribe you'll see that I attached two seemingly identical images - they show a cartoon about 'Architects' - the second of them has a text message inside it - to see it download it to your desktop, and then use the open-with context-menu to open it with your usual zip/unzip application - the 'hidden file' should then be available to extract and be read - it was a simple example of how 'miscreants' can hide messages and other files inside seemingly innocent images and thereby evade detection, whatever the 'watchers' try...
-
Have a read of tig's big post, about halfway through the second paragraph.
Have you tried it with the uploaded images tig? im wondering if the extra info might have gotten stripped on upload...
edit: beaten to it.
-
I can download it and extract the file with ALzip...
So it's still in there ! -
i couldn't open it with 7zip, winrar, or pixlr grabber, but i guess that's besides the point anyway. i believe the point is that anyone dangerous will be too sophisticated to detect and all that will happen is they'll start investigating every redneck with an internet connection who mentions to his buddy that a black president should be shot!
oops, i hope that statement doesn't make me a target for investigation!
-
It's broken for me now too ?
Must be something on the server than messes with it a while after it's uploaded...
Here's a jpg inside a zip file so it should be OK.
Extract the jpg file from the zip.
Open the jpg and you'll see it's just a jpg image file...
Use right-click context-menu on it and select open_with...
The zip window that opens should show a text file AND another jpg hidden inside the main jpg - extract these and then view/read as required...

Working now

Privacy issues aside, who do you think is gonna pay for something like this? I'm sick of the fact that me, my children and grandchildren are gonna have to pay for the stupid policies of my government and I'm talking about both the Bush and Obama administrations. It has to stop sometime.

Aus has yet to do the cencorship on websites, the govt wants it, black list on various sites.
I seems quite insane that govts even think about such things, I believe the last greatest total ban on anything (least in the u.s) was prohibition.
And that worked well didn't it.I have no idea what is going to solve this recent dilemma of humanity. Perhaps everyone on this earth needs to watch Independance day several times over to get a cohesive view.
Beam me up Scotty. -
For those of us on the "inside" (the enlightened few) we know that the government has been monitoring our thoughts using cell towers as mind reading and mind control devices for years! This whole Goole+NSA mumbo-jumbo is just another cover story to keep our attention focused on the wrong thing!
I highly suggest everyone that has read (or will read this thread in the future) to learn how to make a homemade "Faraday Cage" (AKA: Tin Foil Hat) before you lose all ability to make your own decisions and become a drooling mindless zombie in perpetual pursuit of more government Koolaid! The life you save may very well be your own!
Now before some of the naysayers start their "nay saying" i have found a Wiki article that proves SCIENTIFICALLY (and far beyond any reasonable doubt) that these "tin foil hats" do in fact protect the brain from the meddling rays of governments world-wide!

Potential Agents we've uncovered
######################################
The NSA and CIA have covert agents looking for us at all times. Here are a few desquises we have uncoveredWal-Mart Greeters
Agents have infiltrated the ranks of walmart greeters and have been very successful at taking down our strongest foil mules. And since walmart provides us with such large volumes of foil we are poised to fight our fearist battles there. Don't let their age fool you, these "greeter agents" are very cunning and always alert! And never, ever engage one in direct conversation because they will force information from you with their "geriatric" mind tricks!Little Old Ladies Crossing The Street
This is by far their most sneaky attack by using our kindness against us! Although lacking the cunning and Jedi prowess of walmart greeters these "vertically challenged agents" use their unique "angle of perspective" to spot tin foil hats even when carefully covered by 10 gallon cowboy hats and novelty sombreos. Resist your temptations to be kind!Pizza Delivery People
No matter how hungry you get creating tin foil hats never ever order a pizza to be delivered because i guarantee you an agent will be knocking at your door in 30 minutes or less! But if your hunger gets the best of you just be damn sure NOT to eat the parmasian cheese! Its really "pixie dust" that will render the tin foil hat useless for up to three days!##########################
Tips for buying foil
##########################
Always keep spare foil in your pantry. When buying the foil never buy only foil, they will spot you a mile away. Also if you see a "normal" looking employee casually "tidying up" the foils on isle 13 wait until they leave before approaching the foil! And if anyone ever asks why you need the foil always tell them you are having a back yard bar-b-que! -
Well, I'll tell that I'm not apart from zero! And I think it is funny how the world is with so much potential to focus on the good rights!!! cause it is easy to be as lost looking back. Understanding Zero from a Phi Perspective(pronounced fee!...)....Points...lines...angles...triangles...squares...rectangles... circles.. sacred geometry... That is what we are all after!!! WE admit to GOD not the FBI.. The auther of optimistic energy, the love wave, significant by our limit of a sum from zero to infinity (us partly included). I think it is funny how two zeros side by side make i.. and that is what Archimides who rotated the circle as he segmented it and the roots is another place to go.. And how we are irrational people but a joy with the 1 drawing lines through circles and start the phi wave growing in intensity and frequency of God...I believe so much more than ever thought before. Virgin Mary is one of the many zeros I look up to. I believe GOD happened for a good reason. Just as the mesh of points in the sky change our awareness in our ratio growth. Well, I better focus on what is right by going back to the forum..!!! Amen, sketchuanions!!! And as soon as I get my job!! I'm donating!!! what has already been given.

Not to worry about the Gov...You must remember they need to learn how to turn the PC on first....
