How to download plugins
-
Hello,
I'm very new to Sketchup and became interested thru a woodworking publication. I'm not sure if I am in the right forum to ask this however, what are the instructions on how to download plug ins and what would be the best way to get stared using the amazing power that is offered.
GREAT FORUMS
Thank you

Hi Victor and welcome to SCF.
Have a look at Smustard's FAQ about how (and where) to download and install plugins:
http://www.smustard.com/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=5&id=1&artlang=enNow of course, that's the general approach - nowadays some plugins are more complicated but I am sure people in the Plugins Forum will be happy to help with each problem you may face at the very beginning.
As you say you came through a woodworking publication, I guess you are also interested in woodworking so I have added you to the Woodworking usergroup so that you can see (and post in) our specialised forum (down in the forum index page).

BUT always remember, put the right file in the Plugin folder to even use one.
To find your plugin folder on a windows computer:
Computer Hard Drive Google Sketch Up Plugins

On any computer, Window/Ruby Console.
In the white input bar type:
Sketchup.find_support_file "Plugins"
That echoes your input and gives you your path:

Ha! This is cool tip, Martin!
Would this work the same way on a Mac? -

Yes indeed, and also see the Ruby Resources for other great tips.
You could also just open the folder in the file file browser by entering:
UI.openURL(Sketchup.find_support_file("Plugins"))
Although it may only work on Windows.

Actually that is being discussed much lately in the developer forum. The Mac will not always return the correct value. And this can cause some plugins to not load.

Yes, I have seen it already.
And Macs went crazy since SU 7, too.
