      I think it has potential

How hard could it be for them to, once they realize its needed, update the software to allow for a three finger click or click left and right at same time to function as a third button.

it just looks so beautiful i want to get it. darn apple and their aesthetics.

I think itd be an idea to wait and actually try one. Personally im not overly optimistic but then it might work really well. Hard to say with something so different.

Hey that's not a bad idea...
So they saw a problem in the scrolling ball too, right? 😕

in my opinion apple has done it again: a touch mouse before anyone else. if it does not work perfectly now it certainly will soon.

people should not be prejudiced against something they do not know fully. of course, this mouse has a second button. and more, it can be customized to do what you want, even to be a one-button mouse.

i am also curious to see if it has a third button but there is no reason it should not, as the mighty mouse has one.

the mighty mouse is cleanable, for sure. just rub the little scroll ball on paper.

speaking of new apple products, the new iMac is looking super legit..
2.8 quad i7 w/ 27" display for $2200.. that's considerably cheaper than my mac pro was (no display) and it's going to out preform mine..

or, a SU only configuration could be the dual 3.06 for $1700..

The world’s best all-in-one desktop. Supercharged by M4 chip. Built for Apple Intelligence. With a 24-inch 4.5K display. Advanced camera and audio.

all the new imac ship with this magic mouse thing so they probably have it working well by now.. generally, apple doesn't ship halfassed products..

I am sure it will work beautifully, just like the touch pad on my MacBook Pro, but I cannot imagine it will be great with SU.

I need lots of buttons so I shall stick with my fantastic Logitech Revolution.

FYI I bit the proverbial-bullet and bought a Magic Mouse. I have a MacBook Pro from last year (i.e. the one that had a button on the track-pad) and run Mac OS X as well as Bootcamp + Windows XP Pro SP3.

So this versus my previous experience, the Mighty Mouse (wireless), the Magic works just fine on Snow Leopard(!) after of course installing the appropriate Apple's update. The drag is there's no wheel-click, which for us it means no 3D Orbit from the mouse. In addition, on the Windows-side (I need to run AutoCAD & am beta-testing Rhino 5) it's almost useless. It does not yet have any of the multi-touch features, it barely works to navigate and single-click (i.e. as a one-button mouse). Ay ay ayyyy! I tried to run an update, and sort of gave up on it.

In conclusion, I nevertheless have high hopes 'someone' at Apple will realize that the Magic Mouse relative its predecessor, the Mighty Mouse, is a downgrade: it lost functionality (the wheel-click) and with it a whole bunch of Sketch-uppers (as well as the Boot-campers) will presumably opt-out. Given that almost the whole top shell is a multi-touch track-surface it shouldn't be surprising they'll add or enhance this ability at a future iteration.

                  Hope this helps.

                  Cheers,

                  . Diego .

I was suspecting we would lose the middle click with the magic mouse, you are proving me correct. That is until an update let's you do it... i dream of an orbit available landing two fingers on the mouse...

It's a bit awkward without the middle button but there is always command - control to temporarily activate orbit from any tool, plus shift to bring in pan.
I suppose that'll have to do for now..

I found a third party application that allows one to add new commands for the magic mouse. I added a three finger click and assigned it the command 'Middle Click.' Started Sketchup and now I have the middle click functionality back.
