The DOE has released a new Sketchup plugin called OpenStudio for their EnergyPlus software. It can model and run simulations within Sketchup. Just downloaded the software, so I don't have an opinion yet. Attached video for those interested.

        Thanks for the headsup Ron.

I tried a couple of times to get on to EnergyPlus http://www.energyplus.gov/ but had no luck. They must be overloaded.

Anyway, I did a bit of research on the application and found these links,

The last one is probably the best as it gives a good overview. If anyone has success in downloading the plugin please let me know as I would like hear their thought and try it out.

          Guys

I'm surprised that there is not more interest in OpenStudio. Maybe we need to see more building design professionals here ๐Ÿ˜’

Anyway, to update matters. I was able to log in to the site and found the section for the downloads, both Win and Mac plugins. Its a matter of filling in some details here, http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/openstudio.cfm Once completed the plugin is available for immediate download.

I do note that the plugin would appear to be USA orientated but have to check it out further. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has an interest in this plugin, particularly if they have achieve some results. Quite frankly this type of plugin is important to the environment.

I've downloaded the mac version, and have run into a couple of glitches. I think there will be a learning curve though, although it sure looks like a robust program.
The location information is just U.S.so far , but the names of individual countries are listed in a drop down menu.
            I have big hopes though.

            Just monkeying around....like Monsanto

And lets not forget LightUp which will do realtime Insolation analysis based on Geolocation and give Kwh/m^2/day for tracking and non-tracking surfaces.

I was thinking about LightUp for this purpose Adam. I wonder should you consider going down the 'Energy' road with LightUp as it would appear that you would have the foundations laid! Its all above my head unless its put forward in a simple and straight forward package which Open Studio would not appear to be ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

If you need guinea pigs for such a development process I am sure that the architects and engineers here would be more than willing to work with you.

For me, while pretty pictures are nice, getting the Green element right is far more important ๐Ÿ˜‰
