How can I get free SU 6?
-
My Chief Architect software is able to use Sketchup 6 models via a simple drag and drop.
My problem is that I have a new computer, and only have SU 7 on it. SU 6 is on my old machine, in storage.
Does Google make available previous versions as free downloads?
-
Can't you just change the save format to Sketchup 6 when you save your model?
-
Gene,
With in SU 7, you are able to save as previous versions (v6, v5... v3). Simply go to File> Save As ... and select the version you want.
Cheers,

For my understanding the only free version available is the latest. So better look on backups.

WSat Macker and CMD says - use the "Save as..." function and select v6 in the file type pulldown.

Learn a new language and get SketchUp 6.0 Free. Try any language but English from the drop-down menu:

Or see your PM's.

Gene,
The free version of Google SketchUp 6 is no longer available for download in English.
I would suggest the method others have recommended, by saving your models from SU7 in SU6 format.

Dear Google Sketchup Team,
Not available in English? Why the hell not!!
You guys really know how to piss people off. Yes, Google Sketchup is free, but look at Google Earth and all the high quality models that now populate that piece of software. Those models were drawn by tens of thousands of people, which in modelling time probably represents millions of hours of labour, WHICH WAS GIVEN FREELY. Look at the high quality of the FREE plugins which have made Sketchup so useable to the wider community. I continue to marvel at the generosity of people like Didier, TIG and Fredo6, not mention the time and effort put in by Didier to maintain the Ruby Library Depot. And what about the 3D Warehouse! Where would that be without the millions of hours of modelling time put in by Sketchup enthusiasts? I reckon you have had a good return on your investment, so come on Google, put back the .dwg and dxf importers, unblock back versions and re-read the Wish List for Version 8.
Rant over!! Now, let's all have a group hug!
Regards,

Bob,
This has always been a Google policy; they only support the latest version of their free product while previous versions of the Pro are still available.
But if you download SU 6 Pro and let it expire, it will still gracefully downgrade to the functionalities of the free version.
The language difference is only because SU 7 hasn't come out in the localised versions yet.

These are the .dwg and .dxf importers you're looking for, available for a limited time only:
