Follow Me Problems
-
Hi guys,
This is probably a dumb question, but I can't get the follow me to work in this situation. I select the face and the path which is approximately perpendicular, but it only chooses one of the face's edges as a path. I'm just trying to do the cover of a cup. Please advise if there's an easier way to do this.
Thanks!

Hi Pedro,
I am not sure what exactly you are showing in that image. I can't even see what tool you are using (to me, the operation looks like an offset rather than follow me)

Hi Csava,
It's actually a follow-me that I was using when I took that shot. That was my frustration, it was only performing a follow-me along the edges of the figure. I just erased the face until I had a face that was not locking the path to the edges of the face, not quite sure what was going on there.
Anyways, I've got another question....
I built a "dome" for the top part of a cup, but working on another section I mistakenly erased some faces on the dome and can't undo. How would I patch this up correctly...even taking out the protractor and measuring the angles would be very difficult since it bends in 3d.
I'm almost finished with my first model! Do you think that I can send it to you privately so you can comment on its shortcomings?
Thanks!

If I can orient myself correctly in this picture, here is a possible way to fix those missing faces with a radial array (scroll down in the page).
I still don't know what the problem with the follow me was up there however.@tachyon said:

You can, however if there is no reason for NOT sharing it with the others, I'd really prefer you to upload here as an attachment. The great thing about a forum is that the information remains here for others to learn.

Thanks, that's clever!

The follow me tool does not choose the edge to follow you do and it by design only will accept one edge. So if you want to follow two edges then the cross section you extrude needs to be that profile defined between those two edges and for your cup example it would the small strip between the cup edges. Of course if the geometric relation changes then the extrusion will not be correct since the tool follows only the one path.
Hope this makes sense?? -
Hi folks.
For me, the quickest way of repairing this damaged cup would be to:
1 - Delete one half containing the damage.
2 - Copy the remaining half.
3 - Flip the copy.
4 - Join the two half.
5 - Smooth the junction line.
It is faster to do than writing this post.
Just ideas.
