After viewing all the U-Tuby thgs I can find and the applicable tuts on both SU and GE, I continue to have a consistent problem with the placement of the model in GE.

I’ve “Get current view”d for several sites w/ the GE view set to direct plan (R shortcut). I’ve then placed several configs of simple boxes modeled on the "placed GE B&W terrain" in SU just to test the idea. But for some reason when I then “Place Model” into GE and (finally) find the model in GE, it has been placed 100’s of feet high and away. Even tho GE takes over and goes back to the site that is supposed to have the model.

I’ve tried this w/ “Terrain” toggled both on and off in GE and w/ various size models in SU…? I’ve also tried different locations around the US, including the SU default Boulder location and continue to get all kinds of erratic results. (A Mojave desert site puts the model into the ocean…!?;-)

The examples and videos out there make this appear far easier than it seems to be workg for me so I must be missing somthg “obvious.” Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong???

      Thx again

      /D

(BTW thx Matthias Basler, Tom, Gaius for the GE tips -- what a site!!)

Could you post the SKP here for someone else to try?

          Hi Dennis,

Please, first of all double check whether your model is georeferenced under Model info > Location. Currently it can happen to be georeferenced to somewhere (like Boulder by default) but since SU 7 now allows you to make multiple georeferencing of a model (but see about this below), it can easily happen to misplace something. So basically, before you take a GE snapshot, make sure NOT to have your model georeferenced.

As for multiple locations; note that while GE works in a spherical environment, SU is still an orthogonal application with a "flat" ground plane and rectangular co-ordinates. This generally doesn't cause serious problems when you have the multiple sites fairly close to each other but even a couple of yards can count and you end up with something seriously misplaced.

That was it, I unchecked "Use Georeferencing" box in Model Info and retested the SU to GE interaction. The model now places perfectly. Too bad we can't make your brain searchable...😉

            Thx again...!!

D12dozer: thx also, you're right I should have posted somethg, but had not really saved a model since I was just testg various configs. Thx tho

Oh, good. I "hoped" the answer was going to be so simple (you can imagine I've made this mistake myself so that's where I know it from)
              😄
