Whenever I import a smaller drawing saved in plan view into my main drawing in plan view, the smaller drawing comes in sideways. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Could you be more specfic? Perhaps you could post a screen shot or two?

There are a lot of reasons for that to happen, can't you just rotate the new drawing. I would be helpfull if you specify the "drawing". Is it a image (like a jpg), or a model (or component that is *.skp), etc.

Some 3D formats can swap the axes etc.
