First off...Y'all are incredible. It warms my soul to see people so jazzed about something
with so much possibility (and reality in a virtual sense)However...I am still locked in a semi_autocad world and have found the following snafu.
If I import a solid model from Autocad, I think that the program assigns names of group#1, group#2, group#3 to all of the solids.
This seems to cause SP3RC1 to stop working.
However, if I just used the entity info tool and edit out the names it all works.
Anyone else have the same problem....I am introducing my Autocad students (it is in the course title) to workflow and this extra step might actually
be good for them but on the other hand it is maddening when you just want to hook up an xbox controller and throw virtual tomatoes.Keep rockin!
Ive never had this problem before but throwing virtual tomatoes is a bit of a new one. I hope your joking.

That shouldnt be a problem. I renamed a few objects like that and they still worked. There might be something else going on. Post a model that fails and I'll take a look.

Another "gee whiz!" post:
Gotta say thanks to the creator of SP. I'm amazed. I certainly didn't expect it to be such a well thought out program, and as soon as I played with the realtime simulator I was hooked. Fantastic. Now I get to spend even more time banging my head on the keyboard using sketchup while trying to learn a new, complex tool. My wife won't be as thrilled about the plugin as I am...
EDIT:
Heh, Just got playing with it and already have a question. I created a static ground and a cylinder object, made an end of the cylinder a "thruster" and "launched" it from the ground. After I let off the thrust to let the object fall to the ground, it fell right the ground. Reapplying thrust to arrest the fall bringing it back up to the level of the ground and allowing the object to settle gently onto the plane worked fine.
Did I run up against a limit for object interaction/collision?
-
Collisions can only be detected when an object is interesecting another in the given frame... if an object is moving fast enough to be on one side in one frame, and the other side in the next, no collision will be detected. There's a possiblity of raycast-collision detection being introduced, which will accurately detect collisions between objects at any speed.

Good to know. Thanks for the reply.

It looks like CPillips is doing some work on the sketchyphysics home page http://code.google.com/p/sketchyphysics2/. you 'll have to wait a little bit before you can download sketchyphsics

The links work again.

When i build alot i get this error. It said something about not being able to save a dump file when i press play. When i hit ok i just get the send info thing to windows. I'll send a picture. Also does anyone know of a tutorial is for sp3 rc1 or is that for the finnishing version? Thanks CPhillips

Check out the Wiki for information. As for the problem, I don't think it is the size, but sometimes it fails to start. If it persists then let us know.
-
Thanks an its happened more than once so far and it may have something to o with the size because it happens when i have a high poly model and when i on't it starts right up. What happens is when i do have a high poly model in there and i start sketchyphysics it will freeze up for a moment and the that message will come up. I will check wiki about that tho. I on't think its a big deal but it could be a big step up for more joints and moving parts. Good luck with it tho.

I'm getting this error:
Error Loading File sketchyphysics.rb Failed to load /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/plugins/SketchyPhysics3/dl.bundle
I have placed all of the files from "SketchyPhysics3RC1-MacAndWin-Fixed" into /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/plugins/ on my mac...
suggestions?

Did you empty out the folders? The internal folders in the .zip need to remain intact. Extracting to the plugins folder is the easiest way to go

The folders are intact. I have extracted the zip as it is, maintaining the folder structure just as I do with every other plugin I have installed. I double checked to see that the dl.bundle file is where it is supposed to be. I tried overwriting it with the dl.bundle that was posted here... but I still get the same error. I'll try removeing all the plugins I have to see if maybe something is interfering...

I have installed and reinstalled SP3RC1 several times and even created a "clean" install of SU7 but cannot get a Joint settings panel to appear from either a right click properties selection or from the pull down menues. Any ideas please?

Removed all plugins and ran sketchup with only Sketchy Physics, and the same error comes up...

I'm pretty clueless about Macs, so I don't really think I can help... sorry

Can you delete this file
win32api.so
, it's located in the plugins folder.

Also have you tried the SPX for mac http://sketchyphysics2.googlecode.com/files/SP3x-Apr5-MacAndWin.zip.

From a fairly experienced SP user who's been following SP since the first release, I can say that it is insanely frustrating to have to scour the internet to find the latest release. Search for Sketchyphysics and you get the sketchyphysics project homepage on Google code, which is insanely out of date, then the Sketchyphysics2 homepage.
Neither one of those has anything remotely resembling a "take me to the latest release which is what I am so obviously looking for" button. Most people who are looking for Sketchyphysics are looking for the latest release. A very few of them are looking for an older release because of some sort of functionality or something, or some hope of increased stability, but i tell you those people are very few in number.
When you go to sketchyphysics.com, you get a link to the sketchyPhysics 1 project on google code. Nothing else.
I am volunteering to create and maintain (and even host on my site, if necessary) the SketchyPhysics website, to compile relevant articles, tips, tutorials, and information, including archiving all releases, so that people can more easily get up and running with Sketchyphysics.
If the SP website as it exists now isn't owned by CPhilips, the owner should step up and either get to work on it or hand the work off to someone else. In this case, I'm volunteering my webdesign skills, time, resources, etc. because the SketchyPhysics community needs it.
If the SketchyPhysics site's hosting is too limiting, I am also offering to host the project under my site, hackthetruth.org (excuse the homepage, I'm redoing the whole site), until the time when the SketchyPhysics site can be supported by donations, ads, or whatever.
The problem right now is that everything is under someone else, and not even in the same place. There is no one obvious place for a beginning user to go to get all the info they need. Fixing this should quickly help increase the size and coordination of the community.
I am offering this out of my interest in the well being and development of the SketchyPhysics community and the SketchUp community in general. I like SP, and I am sad to see it getting slowed down by a lack of centralization.
Why I (haphazard1342) disappeared from the SU community): I have been bogged down with other things and have not been able to spend as much time with SketchyPhysics as I would have liked. in the past, I ran the SketchyPhysics Challenge. unfortunately, due to my lack of time, I had to abandon it, which I consider a loss to the SketchyPhysics community. I plan on restarting the Challenge sometime soon, and welcome anyone who wants to help me out with it.
@==Physicsguy==: Do I know you from the world of Phun/Algodoo? There's a guy named Physicsguy over there as well...
